We have never once gone on a trip and thought, “we’ll just take a few photos.” That has never happened.

Kira is the photographer. Emily is the photographer assistant, which sounds official but mostly means making sure Kira does not step backwards into a hole, reminding her the lens cap is on, and then later reminding her the lens cap is in her pocket when she is convinced it is gone forever.

This photography page is where we share our travel photography and the lessons that come with it. Think scenic views, coastal drives, small towns, and those “okay wait, pull over” moments that turn into the best shots of the trip.

You will find a mix of landscape photography, candid travel moments, and practical tips from Kira on how to actually get the shot. You will also get Emily’s contributions, which include “accidental” photo bombs, questionable selfies, and being aggressively unhelpful while holding the camera.

If you are here for travel photography, real tips, and a little behind the scenes chaos, you are in the right place.

Photographing Pets

How to Photograph Your Pet Without Losing All the Treats If you’re anything like me, anytime you try to photograph a pet and snap that cute picture, one of two things inevitably happens: they suddenly become a blur as the run faster than you have ever seen or they look away the second you hit the shutter making them look

Cannon Beach Photography

Sunsets, Sea Stacks, and Surviving Sideways Rain If you’ve ever looked at photos of the Oregon Coast and thought, “Wow, that place looks moody enough to write poetry in,” you were probably looking at Cannon Beach.  This was my first trip down the coast and I told Emily as we were leaving that it would definitely not be my last.

Norway & Iceland Photography

Norway & Iceland Photography How to Capture Fjords, Orcas, Arctic Light, and Icy Landscapes This trip was born from a very specific dream: to swim with orcas… in Norway… in January.  Naturally, I convinced a reluctant Emily to join me in this plan, and somehow we both survived to tell the story.  If you haven’t read the full recap of

Foggy winter forest in Leavenworth

Leavenworth, WA & Dreamy Winter Photography

I absolutely love anything Christmas and I don’t mean casually.  I spend two full weeks decorating with lights, trees, ornaments, and enough sparkle to be seen from anywhere. So when Emily said, “Hey, there’s a village that’s getting ready for a Christmas festival…” that was enough for me. I didn’t let her finish before I was mentally packing camera gear.

Orcas & the San Juan Islands Photography Guide

If there’s one place that makes you feel like you’ve accidentally wandered into a Pacific Northwest postcard, it’s the San Juan Islands. Orcas, Friday Harbor, Lopez, Shaw — every island feels like its own tiny universe where moss, ocean, and sky have decided to show off on purpose. And if you’re traveling with a camera? Congratulations. Your memory card is
